Short answer

If your YouTube channel disappeared, it is not always deleted. The usual causes: the wrong account or Brand Account, a hidden channel, a hack, a termination by YouTube, or a deletion by you or a co-owner. Check your email and YouTube Studio first – the cause decides whether you need account recovery, an appeal or nothing.

Key takeaways

  • A channel that seems deleted is often just a different account, a different Brand Account or a hidden channel.
  • If YouTube terminated the channel, you get an email with the reason and see a notice in YouTube Studio; all of the channel’s videos are removed.
  • A hacked channel is recovered through the Google Account first – Google’s account recovery is free.
  • Creators who deleted their own channel or Google Account can’t use YouTube’s Second Chances program, according to YouTube.
  • Never delete a terminated channel or account in frustration – it can close the remaining official routes.

Few things feel worse than searching for your own channel and finding nothing. Before you assume your YouTube channel was deleted, take ten minutes to check what actually happened – because a channel that “disappeared” is often still there, just not where you are looking. And if it really is gone, the cause decides your next step: account recovery, an appeal, or a fast restore attempt.

Why did my YouTube channel disappear?

A YouTube channel usually disappears for one of five reasons: you are signed in to the wrong account, the channel was hidden, it was hacked, YouTube terminated it, or it was deleted by you or someone with owner access. The first two are harmless and common. The last three need action today.

How do you find out what happened to your channel in 10 minutes?

You find out by checking your email, your accounts and YouTube Studio – in that order, because each check rules out a cause.

Five checks in order to find out why a YouTube channel disappeared Where did my channel go? Five checks 1 EmailTermination or Google security email? Check spam too. 2 Account switcherRight Google Account? Right Brand Account? 3 Gmail sign-inLocked out of everything? Disabled account or hack. 4 YouTube StudioTermination notice? Hidden channel? Unknown changes? 5 Co-ownersDid anyone with owner access delete or hide it?
Most “deleted” channels are found at check 2. If you reach check 4 and see a termination notice, the clock for your appeal is running.
  1. Search your emailLook for messages from YouTube or Google from the past days, including spam and promotions. A termination email names the policy; a security email points to a hack.
  2. Check every accountOpen the account switcher on YouTube. If you ever created a Brand Account for the channel, it may sit under a different profile than your personal one.
  3. Try to sign in to GmailIf you can’t sign in anywhere, Google has either disabled the account or someone changed your password.
  4. Open YouTube Studio on a computerA terminated channel shows a termination notice when you sign in. A hidden channel still opens in Studio. Unknown uploads or a new name mean a hack.
  5. Ask everyone with accessCo-owners, managers and former team members. A channel can be hidden or deleted by anyone with the right permissions.

A frequent cause of panic is the Brand Account. If your channel was ever moved to a Brand Account – or someone created it there for you – it belongs to that Brand Account, not to your personal profile. Signed in with your personal profile, you may only see an empty channel and think the real one is gone. Switch to the Brand Account in the account switcher; if it isn’t listed, ask who else is an owner, because only people with access to that Brand Account can see and manage the channel.

Was your YouTube channel deleted by YouTube?

If YouTube removed your channel, it was terminated. YouTube says you will receive an email explaining the reason, and the termination notice also appears when you sign in to Studio. Termination also removes the channel’s videos:

Google’s wording

“When a channel is terminated, all of its videos are removed.”

Google Transparency Report, YouTube Community Guidelines enforcement, as of October 2026

YouTube can terminate a channel after three strikes in 90 days, for a single case of severe abuse such as spam, or when a channel is dedicated to violating a policy – so a termination can come without prior warning. If the email’s reason makes no sense to you, our guide YouTube terminated my channel for no reason helps you find the real cause, and the termination reason decoder explains what the policy in your email means.

As of October 2026, you can appeal a termination for up to one year, with two appeals in that year. If you want to write that appeal right the first time, the Appeal Kit has a template for each termination reason, in a short version for the form and a long version for escalation – with a 30-day no-questions refund and no password required.

Was your channel hacked and deleted?

If your channel’s name, picture or videos changed before it disappeared, or you received Google security emails, assume a hack. Attackers sometimes delete or hide videos, rename the channel for a scam, or get it terminated through the content they post. Recover the Google Account first through Google’s free account recovery, then undo the changes – YouTube asks you to do this immediately to avoid strikes. As of October 2026, YouTube’s hacked-channel support only covers incidents from the past nine months, so start now. The full order is on our hacked channel page.

Careful

A disappeared channel attracts “recovery experts” fast. Google says it doesn’t work with any service that claims to provide account or password support. Never give anyone your password or verification codes – check any offer first.

Can you restore a YouTube channel you deleted yourself?

Possibly, but don’t wait. If you or a co-owner deleted the channel or the Google Account by mistake, try to sign in right away and follow any restore option Google or YouTube offers. We could not verify a fixed, guaranteed restore period on YouTube’s current help pages, so treat every hour as important. Google’s account recovery allows unlimited attempts, which helps if the deletion came with a lost password.

One consequence is documented: according to YouTube, creators who deleted their channel or Google Account don’t see the Second Chances option. That is why you should never delete a terminated channel or account in frustration – it can close the one official route back if your appeal fails.

Good to know

Hiding a channel is not the same as deleting it. A hidden channel can be made visible again from Studio. If a co-owner hid your channel during a dispute, the access list in Studio – and our explainer on Brand Accounts and channel ownership – shows who can change what.

What if only some videos disappeared?

If the channel is still there but individual videos are gone, they were most likely removed for a policy violation or a copyright removal request, deleted by someone with access, or set to private. Removals come with an email and usually a warning or strike; you can appeal a warning or strike for six months and a content removal for up to one year, as of October 2026. Our strikes guide explains how warnings, strikes and removals work.

What should you not do when your channel disappeared?

  • Create a new channel right away – if the old one was terminated, that counts as circumvention.
  • Delete the remaining Google Account or channel to “start fresh” – it can cost you Second Chances eligibility.
  • Assume the worst before checking every account and Brand Account.
  • Send an appeal before you know whether the channel was terminated, hacked or deleted.
  • Share your login with anyone who offers to “find” or “restore” your channel.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my YouTube channel disappear?

The most common causes are harmless: you are signed in to a different Google Account or Brand Account, or the channel was hidden. Serious causes are a hack, a termination by YouTube or a deletion by you or a co-owner. Check your email for a termination notice, then sign in to YouTube Studio and use the account switcher before you assume the worst.

Why was my YouTube channel deleted without warning?

If YouTube removed it, it was most likely terminated for a policy violation. YouTube can terminate a channel without prior strikes for a single case of severe abuse, such as spam, or when a channel is dedicated to violating a policy. You should get an email with the reason, and Studio shows the termination when you sign in.

How do I get my deleted YouTube account back?

It depends on the cause. A terminated channel needs an appeal in YouTube Studio or through YouTube’s form, within one year as of October 2026. A hacked account needs Google’s free account recovery. If you or a co-owner deleted it, check right away whether the sign-in page offers a restore option, because we could not verify a guaranteed restore period.

Are my videos gone if my channel was terminated?

They are removed from YouTube: according to Google’s Transparency Report, all videos of a terminated channel are removed. You also can’t download your YouTube content after a termination, although your other Google data generally remains downloadable. If the appeal succeeds, the channel is restored. Keep your own copies of every video as a precaution.

Can I delete my terminated channel and start over?

Don’t. Creators who deleted their channel or Google Account can’t use YouTube’s Second Chances program, according to YouTube, and creating a new channel after a termination counts as circumvention. The official fresh start is Second Chances, available one year after the termination at the earliest for eligible creators.
