Short answer
Is ASMR allowed on YouTube? Yes. ASMR as a genre is not banned and can be monetized. ASMR channels get age-restricted, demonetized or terminated for sexualized content, suggestive thumbnails, involving minors – and, as the July 2026 wave showed, for links or directions to adult content elsewhere. Even one link on another platform can count.
Key takeaways
- ASMR is allowed on YouTube and can be monetized; the risks come from sexualization, thumbnails, links and minors.
- YouTube’s External links policy covers links in text, obfuscated URLs, verbal directions and asking viewers to visit profiles on other sites.
- In late July 2026, several ASMR channels were terminated without prior strikes; a YouTube spokesperson cited links to content violating the nudity and sexual content policy.
- A single case of severe abuse can lead to termination without warnings or strikes.
- Terminated ASMR creators can appeal for up to one year; in the EU, DSA complaints and certified dispute bodies are additional routes.
Few niches have been hit as visibly in 2026 as ASMR. Established creators without a single prior strike woke up to a termination email, and many still don’t know which video – or which link – caused it. This page answers the question behind all of it: is ASMR allowed on YouTube? It explains the rules that actually decide ASMR cases, what happened in the July 2026 wave, the risk level of common formats, and how to appeal if your channel is already gone.
Is ASMR allowed on YouTube?
Yes – ASMR is allowed on YouTube, and ASMR channels can be monetized. YouTube’s Community Guidelines contain no ASMR-specific policy, and YouTube said it did not change any policy during the 2026 terminations.
ASMR videos are judged under the same rules as every other upload. Four of them decide almost every ASMR case:
- Nudity and sexual content (Community Guidelines): sexually suggestive framing, outfits, sounds or roleplay can lead to age restrictions, removals and strikes. See YouTube’s nudity and sexual content policy.
- External links (Community Guidelines): links or directions to content that would violate YouTube’s rules, including pornography.
- Spam Policy: its scope explicitly includes thumbnails, and “Malicious clickbait” covers titles and thumbnails that are deceptively misleading.
- Child safety: protects everyone under 18, with zero tolerance for predatory behavior.
For context: in Q2 2026, YouTube removed 137,130 channels for nudity or sexual content, according to Google’s Transparency Report – a small share of all removals, most of which are spam.
Was there an ASMR purge on YouTube in 2026?
There was a visible wave of ASMR channel terminations in late July 2026, but no policy change behind it. According to 404 Media, Dexerto (August 3, 2026) and Tubefilter (August 4, 2026), several established ASMR channels were terminated without prior strikes.
The explanations didn’t fully match. A YouTube spokesperson said the channels were terminated for linking to content that violates the nudity and sexual content policy. The termination emails creators shared, by contrast, cited severe or repeated violations of the sexual content policy itself. The text of the External links policy did not change during that period. If your channel was terminated in this wave, both readings matter for your appeal – the links and the videos. Our timeline of YouTube termination waves puts it in context.
YouTube’s termination page allows termination for a single case of severe abuse, or for channels dedicated to a policy violation – without warnings or the three-strike ladder. Read terminations without strikes to see how that rule works.
Why can a link get an ASMR channel terminated?
Because YouTube’s External links policy treats the destination of a link as if it were on your channel. If the place you send viewers contains content that would violate YouTube’s rules – pornography is the first item on the list – your channel is responsible.
The policy is broader than most creators assume. As of October 2026 it covers:
- clickable links in descriptions, comments, posts and channel pages,
- URLs written as text or obfuscated (“name dot com”),
- verbal directions in the video, and
- asking viewers to visit your profile on another site.
That last point is the one that caught ASMR creators: a link-in-bio page or a “find me on…” mention that leads to an adult subscription profile can count, even if every YouTube video is clean. Enforcement usually starts with a warning, but the policy explicitly allows termination for a single case of severe abuse. Our page on the External links policy covers the details and exceptions.
Can you monetize ASMR videos on YouTube?
Yes – ASMR channels can join and stay in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) on the same terms as any other channel. Monetization problems usually come from how a video is presented, not from the triggers themselves.
- Ad suitability: sexually suggestive outfits, camera angles, body-focused triggers or titles can lead to “Limited ad earnings” on individual videos.
- Repetitive content: since July 2026, YouTube’s monetization policies require that videos differ materially in substance. A channel of near-identical videos with only the object swapped can look templated.
- AI ASMR: AI-generated sounds or visuals are not banned, but mass-producing near-identical AI videos falls under “Automated or synthetic mass-production” in the Spam Policy, and realistic AI content needs the “Made with AI” disclosure.
Where does ASMR cross the line into age restrictions?
Age restrictions are YouTube’s middle ground between leaving a video up and removing it – and ASMR with sexual undertones often lands there. An age-restricted video is hidden from signed-out and younger viewers, which costs reach and ad revenue, but it is not a strike. When creators appeal a removal, one possible outcome is an age restriction instead of removal.
Thumbnails and titles are the most common trigger. A suggestive thumbnail on an otherwise ordinary video can be enough for an age restriction or limited ads, and a thumbnail that promises something the video doesn’t contain falls under the Spam Policy. In our assessment, if a thumbnail would get the video flagged when shown on its own, it is a liability for the whole channel.
Which ASMR formats are low, medium or high risk?
This table is our assessment based on YouTube’s published policies and the 2026 reports, as of October 2026 – not a guarantee for any channel.
| Format | Risk | Main issue | Safer approach |
|---|---|---|---|
| Object triggers, tapping, nature sounds, tutorials | Low | Few policy issues | Vary your formats over time |
| Personal attention roleplay (non-sexual) | Low | Framing and thumbnails | Neutral thumbnails and titles |
| Mouth sounds, “intense” or body-focused triggers | Medium | Age restriction, limited ads | Keep framing and wording non-sexual |
| Mass-produced or AI-generated ASMR | Medium | Repetitive content, spam mass-production | Fewer, original videos; disclose AI |
| Suggestive outfits, angles or thumbnails | High | Sexual content policy, Spam Policy (thumbnails) | Change the presentation, not just the title |
| Links or directions to adult profiles elsewhere | High | External links policy; possible termination | Remove every path to adult content |
| Minors performing ASMR, or child-like roleplay | High | Child safety policy | Don’t; set kids-directed content as made for kids |
ASMR aimed at children must be set as made for kids – see made for kids and COPPA.
How to keep an ASMR channel safe
Most ASMR terminations in 2026 trace back to things outside the video itself. Run this check now, and repeat it whenever you change platforms or link pages.
- Map every path off YouTubeDescriptions, pinned comments, posts, channel links, verbal mentions, watermarks. Write down where each one leads.
- Follow each path to the endOpen your link-in-bio page and every profile on it. If anything there would violate YouTube’s rules, remove the link or the path.
- Separate your brandsIf you also create adult content elsewhere, don’t connect it to your YouTube channel in any way – not by link, name mention or “check my other page”.
- Audit thumbnails as stand-alone imagesWould this image be flagged on its own? If yes, replace it.
- Keep presentation non-sexualOutfits, angles, sounds and titles together decide how a reviewer reads the video.
- Never feature minorsNo children in ASMR content, and no child-like roleplay.
- Back up your workKeep your own master files; after a termination, YouTube content can no longer be downloaded. Our free channel risk audit covers backups and other weak spots.
My ASMR channel was terminated – what now?
Appeal – but only after you have worked out what YouTube most likely saw. A generic “I did nothing wrong” is the weakest possible appeal for an ASMR termination.
“if the decision is appealed, a human will review the appeal and evaluate it on a case-by-case basis”
YouTube Help 13304829, as of October 2026- Deadline and limit: as of October 2026, YouTube allows appeals for up to one year after the termination, with two appeals in that period and a further limit per termination. Treat your first appeal as your only one.
- Content of the appeal: name the policy from the email, list every external link and where it led, state what you have removed or changed off-platform, and explain why the videos themselves are non-sexual. Facts, not feelings. Our appeal templates and examples show the structure.
- EU residents: the Digital Services Act gives you an internal complaint route and access to certified out-of-court dispute bodies such as the Appeals Centre Europe (no user fee; decision must be less than six months old). Google states it is not bound by those decisions.
- After one year: if the appeal fails, YouTube’s Second Chances pilot lets some terminated creators request a new channel one year after termination. You start from zero – old videos and subscribers don’t come back. See Second Chances.
The Appeal Kit (€87) includes a severe-abuse template and the 5-part appeal structure that makes reviewers keep reading, with short and long versions and a 30-day no-questions refund. We never ask for your password.
What not to do
- Don’t open a new channel while you wait. That is circumvention and can terminate the new channel too.
- Don’t send a vague or angry appeal – you have very few appeals.
- Don’t leave the link page that caused the problem online while you argue it wasn’t a problem.
- Don’t rely on “it’s only a link, not my video”. The policy counts links and directions.
- Don’t pay services that promise to “unban” ASMR channels through insiders. Nobody legitimate has that access.
Frequently asked questions
Is ASMR banned on YouTube?
No. ASMR is not banned and there was no ASMR-specific policy change in 2026. ASMR videos are judged under the same rules as everything else – mainly the nudity and sexual content policy, the External links policy, the Spam Policy for thumbnails and titles, child safety and the advertiser-friendly guidelines. Channels get into trouble through sexualized presentation, links and minors, not through the genre.
Why were ASMR channels terminated in July 2026?
According to 404 Media, Dexerto and Tubefilter, several established ASMR channels were terminated in late July 2026 without prior strikes. A YouTube spokesperson said the channels were terminated for linking to content that violates the nudity and sexual content policy and that no policy had changed. Some termination emails, however, referred to severe or repeated violations of the sexual content policy itself.
Can a link on another platform get my channel terminated?
Yes. YouTube’s External links policy counts not only clickable links but also URLs written as text, obfuscated addresses, verbal directions and asking viewers to visit your profile on another site. If that destination contains content that would violate YouTube’s rules, such as pornography, your YouTube channel can be penalized – up to termination for severe cases.
Can you monetize ASMR videos on YouTube?
Yes. ASMR channels can join the YouTube Partner Program like any other channel. Sexually suggestive framing, outfits or thumbnails can lead to limited ad earnings or age restrictions, and mass-produced, near-identical videos can run into the repetitive and AI mass-production rules. Original, clearly non-sexual ASMR is generally advertiser-friendly.
How do I appeal an ASMR channel termination?
Log in to YouTube Studio, start the review from the termination notice and submit a specific appeal. As of October 2026, YouTube allows appeals for up to one year, with two appeals in that period. Explain exactly which links or videos might have been the issue, what they pointed to and what you have changed. EU residents can also use DSA complaints and certified dispute bodies.
Is ASMR with children allowed?
ASMR made for children must be set as made for kids. ASMR featuring minors on camera is high-risk under the child safety policy, which protects everyone under 18, and any sexualized framing involving minors can lead to immediate termination. Adult ASMR that uses child-like roleplay is also high-risk.
