The 48-hour evidence checklist after a YouTube termination

In the first two days, the instinct is to write an appeal immediately. Do this first: secure what proves your case, because some of it will not be there next week.

Short answer

After a YouTube termination, save evidence before you appeal: the original termination email with headers, screenshots of the notice in YouTube Studio, your other Google data via Takeout, original video and project files, revenue records, contracts and licenses, and a log of every contact. Your YouTube uploads can no longer be downloaded once the channel is terminated.

Key takeaways

  • Once a channel is terminated, you can no longer download its YouTube content – but you can usually still download your other Google data.
  • Save the termination email as the original message with headers, not just as a screenshot or forward.
  • Partner Program creators can request analytics data from their monetized period through Creator Support.
  • If the whole Google account is disabled for certain severe violations, Google may not allow any data download at all.
  • In the EU, you can also request your personal data from Google under Article 15 of the GDPR.

YouTube channel terminated? What to save comes before what to write. The first impulse is to fight back right away – hold that thought for a day. What you save in the first 48 hours decides how strong your appeal can be – and whether later steps, like a complaint in the EU or a conversation with a lawyer, have anything to stand on. Some evidence disappears quickly, and your YouTube uploads are locked the moment the channel is terminated. This checklist walks you through what to save, hour by hour, and how.

What should you save after your YouTube channel is terminated?

After a termination, save everything that shows what happened, what your channel was and how you made it: the original termination email, screenshots of the notice in YouTube Studio, your other Google data, your original files, revenue records, contracts and licenses, and a log of every contact.

The 48-hour plan at a glance. Order matters: the email first, because every deadline counts from it.

Do not appeal before you have worked through at least the first two blocks. An appeal written with the evidence in front of you is more specific, and as of October 2026 you only get two appeals within a year – so there is no reason to rush the first one. The overview of how to appeal a YouTube termination shows where the evidence goes.

Hour 0–2: How do you save the termination email properly?

Save the termination email as the original message with its technical headers – as a downloaded .eml file and a PDF – because a screenshot or a forwarded copy loses the details that prove when and from where it was sent.

  1. Open the email in a browserIn Gmail on a computer, open the termination message. Do not click any links in it – go to YouTube Studio directly later.
  2. Show the originalIn the three-dot menu, choose “Show original”. This displays the full message with headers.
  3. Download the originalClick “Download original” and save the .eml file in a dedicated folder.
  4. Print to PDFAlso save a readable PDF of the message, with the date visible.
  5. Write down the date and timeYour deadlines count from the termination date. Put it in your contact log right away.
  6. Collect earlier emailsSearch your inbox for earlier messages from YouTube: warnings, strikes, policy training, Partner Program notices. Save them the same way.

The email usually names a policy – for example “Spam, deceptive practices and scams” – but rarely a specific video. Sometimes the notice only appears when you sign in to Studio. Either way, the exact wording is the starting point of your appeal.

Hour 2–12: What can you still screenshot in YouTube Studio?

After a termination you lose the Studio dashboard, but you can still sign in to see the termination notice and the reason screen – capture both before you start an appeal.

  • The termination notice as it appears when you sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer.
  • The reason screen behind “Begin Review” – note the exact policy name. Do not click “Start Appeal” yet.
  • Your public channel URL showing the removal message, with the date visible on screen.
  • Your Google account’s security activity – recent sign-ins, devices, changed recovery details. This is critical if a hack is possible; see hacked, then terminated.
  • Earlier strikes and warnings as far as you can still see them – or the fact that there were none.
Good to know

Take screenshots with the system clock or a date visible, and save them as files, not just in your phone’s gallery. For a later complaint, a folder with dated files, named consistently (“2026-10-09_studio-notice.png”), is far more useful than 40 unsorted images.

Hour 12–24: What data can you still export?

You can no longer download your YouTube content after a termination, but you can usually still download your other Google data – and your own originals, revenue records and analytics requests matter more than anything YouTube still holds.

YouTube’s Help Center is explicit: once a channel is terminated, you can no longer download your YouTube content, but you keep the ability to download your Google data. Videos that were removed or received a strike were not available through Google Takeout anyway. If the whole Google account was disabled for certain severe violations, Google may not allow any data download at all – one more reason to act early. Details on what is and is not possible are in how to download your videos from a terminated channel.

  • Google Takeout for your other Google data – Drive, Gmail, Photos – where your scripts, thumbnails and correspondence may live.
  • Original video and project files from your computer, drives and editors – copy them to a second backup today.
  • Revenue records: AdSense payment history and reports, if you can still access them, and bank statements showing payouts. See AdSense after a YouTube termination.
  • Analytics: any reports you exported earlier. If you were in the Partner Program, YouTube says analytics data from your monetized period can be requested through Creator Support.
  • EU residents: a request for your personal data under Article 15 of the GDPR to Google Ireland Limited, via the privacy contact Google lists. It takes time – which is why you start now.

Hour 24–48: Which documents and contacts should you collect?

In the second day, collect the documents that prove your channel was legitimate and original, and start a log of every contact – both are what reviewers, dispute bodies and lawyers ask for.

Keep the log from the first day. It takes two minutes per entry and later answers questions nobody can reconstruct from memory: when you appealed, what you were told, and whether YouTube kept to the review time it indicated.

Also note who had access to the channel – managers, editors, agencies – and which other channels share devices, payment details or people with yours. If YouTube links your channel to another one, you will have to explain that relationship precisely.

What can you no longer get after a termination?

After a termination, you lose access to your YouTube uploads, the Studio dashboard and its analytics, and your entitlement to Partner Program revenue – and if the whole Google account is disabled, possibly your other Google data too.

  • YouTube content: no longer downloadable once the channel is terminated.
  • Studio dashboard: gone; you can only see the termination information and the appeal.
  • Revenue: Partner Program members are no longer entitled to earn revenue, and YouTube may withhold unpaid earnings.
  • Other channels: you may not use, possess or create any other channel while the termination stands.
  • Whole Google account (if disabled): Google says data download may be possible for some services – but not for certain severe violations.

Why does evidence matter for an appeal, a DSA complaint or a court?

Evidence matters because every route after a termination is decided on documents: the appeal on facts a reviewer can check, an EU complaint on dates and the stated reasons, and a court on a clean, dated file.

For the appeal, evidence turns “I did nothing wrong” into “every video is scripted and recorded by me – here is how”. In the EU, the Digital Services Act requires YouTube to give a clear and specific statement of reasons, including the facts relied on and whether automated means were used; comparing that statement with your own records is the core of a complaint. And where courts can act, speed and documentation decide.

What the law says – and where

Our own case shows why the first days count: a German news channel was terminated without warning for “spam, deceptive practices and scams”; a German court granted an injunction 13 days later, without a hearing, and the platform had to bear the costs. That was only possible with a complete, dated file. This route exists in Germany – not in the US. For EU options, see your rights under the Digital Services Act; this is general information, not legal advice.

What not to do while you collect evidence:

  • Delete videos, your channel or your Google account – deleting content does not remove strikes, and deleted channels are excluded from Second Chances. More in should you delete videos before appealing?
  • Forward the termination email instead of downloading the original.
  • Post the email publicly with your address, channel email or other personal data.
  • Give anyone your login so they can “check your Studio” – nobody legitimate needs it.
  • Rename, edit or re-export original files in a way that changes their dates.

Once your folder is complete, you are ready to write. If you want the full 48-hour checklist as a printable file together with a reason-specific appeal template – short version for the form, long version for escalation – it is part of the Appeal Kit (€87, one-time, 30-day no-questions refund). If your sponsors and income are on the line too, the 7-day crisis plan covers what to tell them.

Frequently asked questions

What should I save after my YouTube channel is terminated?

Save the original termination email with headers, screenshots of the termination notice in YouTube Studio, your other Google data via Google Takeout, your original video and project files, revenue records such as AdSense payment history, sponsor contracts and licenses, a list of your uploads, and a log of every contact with YouTube. Do it before you appeal.

Can I download my videos after a YouTube termination?

Not from YouTube. According to YouTube's Help Center, you can no longer download your YouTube content once the channel is terminated, although you can still download your other Google data. Videos that were removed or carried a strike were not available in Takeout anyway. Your own master files and project files are the copies that count.

Can I still download my YouTube analytics after termination?

Not from the Studio dashboard, which you lose with the termination. If you were in the YouTube Partner Program, YouTube says analytics data from your monetized period can be requested through Creator Support. Any reports you exported earlier, and data from third-party tools you already used, are worth saving now.

How do I save the YouTube termination email with headers?

In Gmail, open the message, choose Show original from the three-dot menu and use Download original to save it as an .eml file. Also print the message to PDF for easy reading. Do not rely on a forwarded copy, because forwarding replaces the original technical details that show when and from where the email was sent.

Why does evidence matter if YouTube makes the decision anyway?

Because every later step depends on it. Your appeal needs facts a reviewer can check; an EU complaint or dispute body needs dates and documents; a lawyer needs a clean file; and sponsors need proof of what happened. Evidence that disappears in the first days usually cannot be recreated later.
