Short answer
As of October 2026: up to one year and two appeals for a channel termination, six months and one appeal per Community Guidelines strike, one year for a content removal, 21 days for a Partner Program suspension, 7 days to delete a video under a scheduled copyright removal, at least six months for an EU DSA complaint, 30 days for India’s GAC appeal. Second Chances opens after one year.
Key takeaways
- Channel termination: up to 1 year to appeal and, since September 29–30, 2026, two appeals within that year; the TeamYouTube FAQ of November 13, 2025 still says one – treat the first appeal as your only one.
- Community Guidelines warnings and strikes: 6 months to appeal (since June 2025), one appeal per strike; content removals: up to 1 year (since August 2025).
- Copyright: a strike expires after 90 days only if Copyright School is completed; a scheduled removal can be avoided by deleting the video within 7 days; after a counter notification the claimant has 10 US business days.
- Partner Program: appeal within 21 days of a suspension or 7 days before a scheduled one, YouTube answers within 14 days, re-apply after 90 days (30 days after a first application rejection).
- EU: a DSA Article 20 complaint is possible for at least six months and is free; Appeals Centre Europe takes only decisions up to six months old, and Google says it is not bound by dispute-body decisions.
- India: the Grievance Officer must decide within 7 days (since February 2026), the GAC appeal is due within 30 days; Second Chances can be requested one year after a termination.
The termination email starts several clocks at once, and most of them are not mentioned in it. Some you can miss without consequences; others close the only free routes you have. This page is the reference table: every YouTube appeal deadline we could verify as of October 2026, from the one-year termination window to the seven days of a scheduled copyright removal, plus the legal deadlines in the EU, Germany, the UK and India. For the dates that apply to your case, use the free appeal deadline calculator; this page explains where those dates come from.
Which YouTube appeal deadlines apply as of October 2026?
A channel termination can be appealed for up to one year with at most two appeals; a Community Guidelines strike for six months with one appeal; a removed video for up to one year; a Partner Program suspension within 21 days; and a scheduled copyright removal can be averted by deleting the video within seven days. EU creators have at least six months for a free DSA complaint, Indian creators 30 days for an appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee, and every eligible creator can request a new channel through Second Chances one year after the termination. The table lists all 24 situations with the number of attempts, what follows and the source.
YouTube’s Help Center has said since September 29–30, 2026 that “Creators can only submit two appeals within the 1 year period.” The TeamYouTube FAQ of November 13, 2025, still live, says YouTube reviews “only … one appeal per channel termination” and answers repeat submissions automatically. Until YouTube reconciles the two, treat your first appeal as if it were your only one.
| What happened | What you can do | Deadline | How many attempts | What happens after | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Channel or Google Account terminated for Community Guidelines or Terms of Service violations | Appeal in YouTube Studio (“Begin Review” → “Start Appeal”, contact email and reasons) or, if Studio does not work, the account-suspended form | Up to 1 year from the termination date (on the Help page since August 5, 2025) | Two appeals within the 1-year period (Help page since September 29–30, 2026) plus a further limit per termination. The TeamYouTube FAQ of November 13, 2025 still says YouTube reviews “only … one appeal per channel termination” – a discrepancy; treat your first appeal as your only one | Decision by email. Accepted: Studio dashboard returns. Rejected: you are signed out once you accept the decision; repeat appeals may get an automated reply (since September 30, 2026). From 12 months after the termination: Second Chances | YouTube Help 2802168; TeamYouTube FAQ, Nov 13, 2025; YouTube Help 13304829 |
| Channel terminated after three copyright strikes | Ask the claimant for a retraction (email to copyright@youtube.com from the claimant’s original address) or file a counter notification – still possible after termination via Studio, email, fax or post | No filing deadline published by YouTube; content can only be restored if it still exists. Each strike expires 90 days after it was issued only if Copyright School is completed | Not stated. Abuse of counter notifications (e.g. forged documents) can itself lead to termination | “Filing a counter notification begins a legal process”: the claimant has 10 US business days to show a lawsuit, otherwise the content is restored. Account and associated channels stay terminated otherwise; “You can’t create new YouTube channels”; Second Chances excludes copyright terminations | YouTube Help 2802168; YouTube Help 2814000; YouTube Help 2807684; YouTube Help 2807691 |
| Community Guidelines warning | Appeal in Studio (Dashboard or “Channel violations” card → Appeal); optionally complete the policy training | 6 months after the warning was issued (since June 2025; 90 days before) | One appeal per warning | Upheld: the warning stays. With training completed, it expires 90 days after the training was completed; a repeat violation of the same policy within those 90 days may become a strike. Not every warning is eligible for training | YouTube Help 185111; YouTube Help 2802032 |
| Community Guidelines strike | Appeal in Studio | 6 months after the strike was issued (since June 2025) | “You may appeal each strike only once.” If you delete the video, the strike remains and you cannot appeal again | 1st strike: 1 week of upload and feature restrictions (from acknowledgement). 2nd strike within 90 days: 2 weeks. 3rd strike within 90 days: channel “may” be permanently removed. Each strike expires 90 days after it was issued; deleting content does not remove it | YouTube Help 185111; YouTube Help 2802032 |
| Video, post, playlist, thumbnail or URL removed | Appeal in Studio | Up to 1 year after the content was removed (since August 11–12, 2025). The Transparency Report appeals page still says 90 days for videos – the Help page governs | One appeal; there is no extra penalty for a rejected appeal | Content restored and any strike removed; age-restricted instead of removed; or decision upheld | YouTube Help 185111; Google Transparency Report (YouTube policy) |
| Copyright strike (valid copyright removal request) | Three routes: (a) ask the claimant for a retraction, (b) file a counter notification, (c) complete Copyright School and wait for expiry | Expiry: 90 days after the strike only if Copyright School (4 questions, once) is completed and you have fewer than 3 strikes (since about August 1, 2025, no changelog entry). Counter notification: no YouTube deadline published; the claimant then has 10 US business days; by statute the content goes back “not less than 10, nor more than 14, business days” after receipt unless a lawsuit is notified | Not stated for counter notifications; YouTube does not mediate ownership disputes | Retraction: strike removed and content restored unless deleted. Counter notification: content restored unless a lawsuit is shown, the warning “may be cleared”; if proof of a lawsuit arrives later, the content can be removed again. Live streaming is blocked for 7 days after the first strike and 14 days after a further one | YouTube Help 2814000; YouTube Help 2807691; YouTube Help 2807684; 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(2)(C); YouTube Help 12497556 |
| Scheduled copyright removal (the claimant gave a 7-day notice) | Delete the video yourself | Within 7 days, before the removal takes effect | — | Deleted in time: no strike. Otherwise the strike is issued, and only then can a counter notification be filed. “In all other cases, deleting a video doesn’t resolve a copyright strike” | YouTube Help 2814000; YouTube Help 13823830 |
| Content ID claim on your video | Dispute the claim | No deadline for you published by YouTube. After your dispute, the claimant has 30 days to respond – no response and the claim expires | A submitted dispute cannot be withdrawn. After a rejected dispute: one appeal (for blocking claims), after which the claimant has 7 days | Claim released, upheld, or turned into a copyright removal request – which creates a strike. Not valid reasons: giving credit, having bought a copy, not monetizing. Shorts of 1–3 minutes with an active claim are blocked without a strike (since October 15, 2024) | YouTube Help 2797454; YouTube Help 6013276; Changelog |
| Removed from the YouTube Partner Program (monetization suspended) | Appeal (form or video appeal: unlisted, under 5 minutes, channel URL in the first 30 seconds, one of 15 listed languages or English subtitles) | Within 21 days of your suspension | One appeal. If rejected: re-apply “90 days after your suspension or application rejection date” (Help 9564590); Help 72851 and 9235730 name 30 days for a first application rejection | “Our teams will respond within 14 days with a decision”; if successful, monetization is re-enabled within 30 days. Do not delete videos first – the channel is reviewed “in its current state” | YouTube Help 9564590; YouTube Help 1727191; YouTube Help 72851 |
| Scheduled Partner Program suspension (advance notice) | Appeal before the suspension takes effect | “Within 7 days before your scheduled suspension date” (since July 31, 2024) | One; if rejected, no second appeal | Monetization continues until the decision | YouTube Help 9564590; Changelog |
| Partner Program application rejected | Appeal the decision, or re-apply | Appeal within 21 days; re-apply after 30 days; if you were rejected before or have re-applied already: 90 days (rule since June 5, 2023) | One appeal per decision | Review “typically in about 1 month”. No active Community Guidelines strikes are allowed for an application | YouTube Help 72851; YouTube Help 9235730; Changelog |
| Video marked “Limited ad earnings” or “No ad earnings” (ad-suitability) | Request a human review in Studio | No deadline published (as of October 2026) | “After your one appeal, the reviewer’s decision is final.” Deleting and re-uploading does not help | “Appeals can take up to 7 days.” Since March 10, 2025 the initial ad-suitability decision for new uploads can take up to 24 hours | YouTube Help 7083671; YouTube Help 6162278; Changelog |
| AdSense account disabled for invalid traffic | Appeal through the AdSense appeal form | No deadline published | Further appeals “may not be considered” | “Not allowed any further participation in AdSense”; 30-day payment hold to calculate a possible final payment of the valid share; deductions are returned to advertisers | YouTube Help 14340193; AdSense Help 57153 |
| AdSense account closed for policy reasons | Appeal | At least 90 days must pass between two appeals | Limited by the 90-day rule | Payments may be delayed up to 90 days; the payout threshold is USD 100 / EUR 70 / GBP 60 per payments account | AdSense Help 2576043; AdSense Help 1709871; YouTube Help 10285842 |
| Whole Google Account disabled | Appeal the account decision | No deadline published | Up to 2 appeals; then the account is “permanently disabled and considered for deletion” | You “may be able to download” data from some Google services; not for certain violations (legal requirements, account hijacking, severe content violations) | Google Account Help 40695 |
| EU: any YouTube decision – termination, suspension, removal, demonetization | Digital Services Act Article 20 internal complaint, electronically and free of charge | At least 6 months after the decision (Art. 20(1)); YouTube’s statement of reasons must list your redress options (Art. 17(3)) | Not limited by the DSA text; the decision may not be taken “solely on the basis of automated means” (Art. 20(6)) | Reasoned decision “without undue delay” and information on out-of-court dispute settlement (Art. 20(5)). The court route stays open “at any stage” | Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 |
| EU: after (or instead of) the internal complaint | Certified Article 21 dispute body – e.g. Appeals Centre Europe, User Rights, Platform Control (all list YouTube) | The body decides within 90 calendar days, up to 180 for complex cases. Appeals Centre Europe accepts only decisions no more than 6 months (180 days) old | Free choice among certified bodies; court remains open “at any stage” | The body “shall not have the power to impose a binding settlement”; Google: “not bound by any decisions” of these bodies. You pay nothing if you lose unless you “manifestly acted in bad faith”; if you win, the platform pays the fees. Appeals Centre Europe: currently no user fee, EU residents only, excludes circumvention, linked accounts, spam/automation, copyright, hacked accounts and impersonation cases | Regulation (EU) 2022/2065; Google – DSA redress options; Appeals Centre Europe FAQ; Commission list of certified bodies (Sep 11, 2026) |
| Germany: court route (interim order against the termination) | Apply for an interim order in your local court under the EEA Terms – speak to a licensed attorney immediately | Rule of thumb from case law, not a statute: as a rule, waiting more than one month harms urgency (OLG Köln, 15 W 70/18, May 9, 2019) | — | German courts have ordered channels and videos restored in urgent proceedings; purely private accounts may be referred to main proceedings (OLG Frankfurt a. M., 17 W 8/23, 2023). This route exists in Germany – not in the US | Court decisions table |
| UK: breach-of-contract claim in your local courts | Money claim against Google LLC under the UK Terms (March 17, 2025), served correctly in the United States | Limitation period of six years for a contract claim, as the Court of Appeal indicated in Robertson v Google LLC [2025] EWCA Civ 1262 | — | Robertson failed because form N510 was missing when the claim was served in the US; the Supreme Court refused permission to appeal on December 17, 2025 | Court decisions table |
| India: complaint to YouTube’s Grievance Officer | File a grievance under the IT Rules 2021 | The platform must acknowledge within 24 hours and dispose of the complaint within 7 days (since G.S.R. 120(E) of February 10, 2026; 15 days before) | — | Decision by the platform; if you disagree, the Grievance Appellate Committee | IT Rules 2021 / GAC portal |
| India: appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) | Appeal online at gac.gov.in | Within 30 days of the Grievance Officer’s decision | — | The GAC “shall make an endeavour” to decide within 30 days – a target, not a hard deadline – and the platform must comply with its decision (Rule 3A(7)). Portal counter on October 9, 2026: 66,090 appeals received, 14,853 disposed of | IT Rules 2021 / GAC portal |
| Terminated more than a year ago, or appeals exhausted | Second Chances: sign in to Studio on a computer with the terminated channel and choose “Request new channel” | Not before one year after the termination date; no end date published (gradual pilot since October 9, 2025) | One request; after a renewed termination there is currently no further way back, according to the TeamYouTube forum | A new channel without the old videos and subscribers; compliant old videos may be re-uploaded; apply to the Partner Program once eligible (new thresholds for new applicants from February 1, 2027). Excluded: copyright terminations, Creator Responsibility violations, deleted channels or accounts | YouTube Help 16369459; YouTube blog, Oct 9, 2025; TeamYouTube forum, Oct 9, 2025 |
| Channel hacked – and possibly terminated because of the hacker’s uploads | Recover the Google Account first, undo unwanted changes “immediately”, then appeal the termination via the form | Support is limited to incidents within the past 9 months (since about December 2025). Changed recovery details take effect after up to 7 days; a suspicious recovery method must be confirmed within 30 days of the warning; the Studio cleanup tool can usually be used up to 30 days after submission | Unlimited Google Account recovery attempts; an incomplete account recovery can lead to a rejected appeal | No restoration is promised. For strikes or claims caused by the hacker’s uploads: “contact us to start an investigation” | YouTube Help 76187; YouTube Help 14849770; Google Account Help 7682439; Google Account Help 6294825 |
| Terminated or removed from the Partner Program with unpaid earnings | Nothing to file; check AdSense | Payments may be delayed up to 90 days; YouTube “may also withhold unpaid earnings and refund advertisers or viewers” | — | Accounts terminated for circumvention: “Any outstanding revenue associated with these accounts will be reclaimed” | YouTube Help 2802168; YouTube Help 1311392; Changelog |
Rows marked “no deadline published” mean exactly that: YouTube’s Help page states none as of October 2026, which is not the same as “no deadline exists”. Where YouTube’s own pages disagree, the row names both figures and says which page governs.
Which clocks start with the termination email?
Four clocks start on the day of the decision: the one-year termination appeal window, the twelve-month wait for Second Chances, the six-month minimum for an EU Article 20 complaint, and the six-month admissibility window of Appeals Centre Europe. A fifth starts the moment you learn of the decision if you are in Germany and considering court: urgency in interim proceedings is, as a rule, lost after about a month. Strike, removal, Partner Program and Content ID clocks run from their own notices, which may be weeks before the termination – a channel removed after a third strike usually still has live strike-appeal windows.
- Day 0 – the decision email. Save it, note the date and the policy named, and secure your evidence; the 48-hour evidence checklist covers what disappears first.
- Within about a month (Germany only). If a court route is realistic, speak to a licensed attorney now; see which decisions exist.
- Six months. Strike appeals and the Appeals Centre Europe window close; the DSA complaint minimum ends (YouTube may allow longer). If you plan both a second appeal and an EU dispute, do not let the second appeal eat the six months – see how long appeals take.
- Nine months. YouTube’s support for hacked channels covers only incidents within the past nine months.
- Twelve months. The termination appeal and content-removal windows end; Second Chances opens for eligible creators.
Which deadlines are hard and which are rules of thumb?
Most of the deadlines that bind you are hard limits stated on a Help page or in a statute; most of the deadlines that bind YouTube or a dispute body are targets, minimums or commitments. The table sorts every clock by type, because mixing them up leads to two classic mistakes: waiting for a “14-day decision” that YouTube never promised for terminations, and treating the German one-month rule as if it were a statute.
| Clock | Type | Who it binds | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 1 year to appeal a termination | Hard limit | You | YouTube Help 2802168 |
| Two appeals within that year | Hard limit (Help page); TeamYouTube FAQ still says one | You | Help 2802168; FAQ Nov 13, 2025 |
| 6 months to appeal a warning or strike; one appeal per strike | Hard limit | You | Help 185111 |
| 1 year to appeal a content removal | Hard limit (Transparency Report page still says 90 days) | You | Help 185111 |
| 21 days for a Partner Program appeal; 7 days before a scheduled suspension | Hard limit | You | Help 9564590 |
| 7 days to delete a video under a scheduled copyright removal | Hard limit | You | Help 2814000; 13823830 |
| 90 days between two AdSense policy appeals | Hard limit | You | AdSense Help 2576043 |
| 30 days to appeal to India’s GAC | Hard limit | You | IT Rules, Rule 3A |
| One year before a Second Chances request | Hard minimum, no end date | You | Help 16369459 |
| Copyright strike expiry after 90 days | Conditional: only with Copyright School and fewer than 3 strikes | YouTube | Help 2814000 |
| Claimant’s 30 days (dispute) and 7 days (appeal) in Content ID | Hard limit | Claimant | Help 2797454 |
| Claimant’s 10 US business days after a counter notification | Hard limit; statute: restoration after 10–14 business days | Claimant / YouTube | Help 2807684; 17 U.S.C. § 512(g) |
| 14-day response to a Partner Program appeal | YouTube’s commitment, not your deadline | YouTube | Help 9564590 |
| Termination appeal review time | No published time; Studio shows an individual “anticipated review time” | YouTube | Help 2802168 |
| “At least six months” for a DSA Article 20 complaint | Legal minimum; YouTube may allow longer | YouTube | DSA Art. 20(1) |
| Appeals Centre Europe: decision no more than 6 months old | Hard admissibility rule of that body | You | ACE FAQ |
| Article 21 body decides within 90 (max. 180) days | Legal target for the body | Dispute body | DSA Art. 21 |
| India: Grievance Officer decides within 7 days | Hard legal duty of the platform | YouTube | Rule 3(2)(a)(i) |
| India: GAC decides within 30 days | Target (“shall make an endeavour”) | GAC | Rule 3A |
| Germany: apply within about one month to keep urgency | Rule of thumb from case law | You | OLG Köln, 15 W 70/18 |
| Hacked channel: incidents within 9 months | Support policy (data retention), not a legal deadline | You | Help 76187 |
Four discrepancies as of October 2026, all documented in the table: the termination page says two appeals, the TeamYouTube FAQ says one; the Help page gives one year for content-removal appeals, the Transparency Report appeals page still says 90 days; the Partner Program appeal page says re-apply after 90 days, the eligibility pages say 30 days after a first application rejection; and India’s GAC portal partly still shows the old 30-day wording for the Grievance Officer, while the Rules say 7 days since February 10, 2026. In each case we cite the governing page and name the other.
What if a deadline has already passed?
A missed deadline rarely ends every route, but it changes which one is next. Work through the list in order:
- Termination appeal window over, or both appeals usedEligible creators can request a new channel through Second Chances from one year after the termination; copyright terminations and Creator Responsibility violations are excluded. In the EU, the court route remains open “at any stage” under Article 21; in the UK, a contract claim has a six-year limitation period. Do not create a channel outside Second Chances – that is circumvention.
- Strike appeal window (6 months) overA Community Guidelines strike expires 90 days after it was issued anyway, so by then it is gone; the removal itself can still be appealed for up to one year. A copyright strike does not expire without Copyright School – complete it.
- Partner Program appeal (21 days) missedRe-apply 90 days after the suspension or rejection date; make sure no active strikes exist and do not delete videos beforehand. Details on the monetization appeal.
- Scheduled copyright removal (7 days) missedThe strike is issued; now a retraction request or a counter notification are the routes, and Copyright School starts the 90-day expiry clock.
- Appeals Centre Europe window (6 months) overOther certified bodies may have different admissibility rules – check the DSA routes for EU creators; the Article 20 complaint may still be open if YouTube allows more than the six-month minimum, and the court route is unaffected.
- India: 30 days for the GAC appeal missedThe Rules set that deadline without a published extension; a fresh grievance to the Grievance Officer on a new decision starts a new 7-day clock. See India: Grievance Officer and GAC.
- Hacked more than 9 months agoGoogle Account recovery itself has unlimited attempts; YouTube’s support policy, not a law, limits hack-related help to nine months. See terminated after a hack.
What not to do with these deadlines:
- Do not file two termination appeals at once or re-file after a rejection “to be safe” – the limit is two in a year, and repeat submissions get automated replies.
- Do not delete a video to fix a strike – the strike stays and the appeal right is gone; the only deletion that helps is within the 7-day window of a scheduled copyright removal.
- Do not rely on “21 days” for a termination – that number belongs to the Partner Program; check the myths we checked before you act on advice from a forum.
- Do not wait for a “14-day decision” on a termination appeal – no such time is published; use the wait to prepare the next route on appeal rejected: your options.
- Do not start a new channel while any window is open – circumvention ends both channels and reclaims revenue.

Frequently asked questions
How long do you have to appeal a YouTube channel termination?
Up to one year from the termination date, according to YouTube’s Help Center page on channel terminations (as of October 2026). The window has been stated there since August 5, 2025; before that, no deadline was published. Within that year you can submit at most two appeals, and YouTube mentions a further limit per termination. The appeal is filed in YouTube Studio via “Begin Review” and “Start Appeal”, or through the account-suspended form if Studio does not work.
How many times can you appeal a YouTube termination?
YouTube’s Help Center has said since September 29–30, 2026 that “Creators can only submit two appeals within the 1 year period”, with a further limit per termination. The TeamYouTube FAQ of November 13, 2025 still states that YouTube reviews only one appeal per channel termination and answers repeat submissions automatically. The two sources contradict each other; what is certain is that the number is small, so your first appeal should contain everything.
How long do you have to appeal a Community Guidelines strike?
Six months after the strike or warning was issued, and you may appeal each strike only once. The window was extended from 90 days to six months between June 8 and 12, 2025, without a changelog entry. Deleting the video does not help: the strike remains and you lose the right to appeal it. For removed content without a strike, the appeal window is up to one year after the removal (since August 2025).
What is the deadline for a YouTube Partner Program appeal?
Twenty-one days from the suspension if you were already removed, or seven days before the scheduled suspension date if YouTube announced the removal in advance (a rule since July 31, 2024). YouTube says it responds within 14 days and re-enables monetization within 30 days if the appeal succeeds. After a rejection you can re-apply 90 days after the suspension or rejection date; for a first application rejection, two Help pages name 30 days.
Is there a deadline for a DSA complaint or for Appeals Centre Europe?
Article 20 of the Digital Services Act requires YouTube to offer the internal complaint “for a period of at least six months following the decision”, free of charge. Appeals Centre Europe, a certified dispute body, accepts only platform decisions that are no more than six months (180 days) old and currently charges no user fee. Dispute bodies must decide within 90 days (180 for complex cases), but Google states it is not bound by their decisions; the court route stays open at any stage.
Is there a deadline for a copyright counter notification?
YouTube publishes no filing deadline for counter notifications, and they remain possible even after a termination. The clock that does run is the claimant’s: after your counter notification the claimant has 10 US business days to show that a lawsuit was filed; otherwise the content is restored, provided it still exists. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(2)(C) restoration happens 10 to 14 business days after receipt. A counter notification begins a legal process and is shared with the claimant.
